Question: What is a Service Address?
Answer:

Every Director MUST provide Companies House with both their residential and service address.

The 'Service Address' is the address that will appear on public record. The address must be a real address so it cannot be a PO Box address / DX number.

For further details see our Service Address page

Question: Why do Directors need to provide their Residential address?
Answer:

Since 1st October 2009, Directors MUST provide both a Residential & a Service address.

The Service address will appear on public record - the Residential address will NOT. The Service address can be any real address (not a PO Box or DX number) so you could use the Residential address as a Service address as well.

The Residential address will be kept by Companies House and will only be available to Government bodies such as HMRC and possibly Credit Reference Agencies.
